cover art of children's book The DreamerAccording to the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), the Pura Belpr� Award is an annual award for the "Latino / Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth." The 2011 Pura Belpr� Award winners include Eric Velasquez, the illustrator of Grandma's Gift, and Pam Mu�oz Ryan, the author of The Dreamer.
