Dan Zanes Releases First Family Music Album in Five Years
Aug 1st 2011, 13:07

nullEx-Del Fuego Dan Zanes has been prolifically recording and releasing music over the past five years, but his last full-on family music album was 2006's Grammy-winner Catch That Train. In the meantime, Zanes and friends have released an album of spirituals(The Welcome Table), a bilingual album (Nueva York), an album of Broadway songs (76 Trombones), and, most recently, a collaboration with the Pilobolus dance company (Contradance).

Dan Zanes' latest release, Little Nut Tree, sees a return to the family music forum, although, to be honest, all of the above albums could be considered "family music," as Zanes' basic musical format informs every one of them. The only difference between Zanes' family music albums and his other projects is that the family albums are theme-free, exploring a wide range of musical influences over a great span of history on one single album.

Little Nut Tree, to be released September 27, 2011, on Zanes' Festival Five Records, features guest appearances by Joan Osborne, Andrew Bird, Sharon Jones, and The Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars, among others. More info about Zanes' music, tour dates, and Little Nut Tree can be found on the Festival Five website.
