Learn more about some of your favorite authors and illustrators of children's books in these video profiles from About.com. The videos are hosted by author and editor Anita Silvey. These videos about the authors and illustrators of classic children's books each focus on the career of a different author or illustrator. There are videos about such favorite authors of children's books as Cynthia Rylant, Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, Astrid Lindgren and Madeleine L'Engle. Other authors and illustrators of children's books who are featured in the videos include Maurice Sendak, Dr Seuss, Jerry Pinkney and Robert McCloskey.

Many of Roald Dahl's 19 children's books have become classics. Some of his most popular books include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and The BFG. Author Madeleine L'Engle is most well-known for A Wrinkle in Time.  The book has become a classic. Who was Madeline L'Engle and what is so special about her books? L'Engle received the John Newbery Medal (What is the Newbery Medal?) in 1963 for A Wrinkle in Time. Swedish author Astrid Lindgren gained worldwide recognition for her books about Pippi Longstocking.  Pippi Lonstocking is stronger than anyone, she is self-sufficient, and she answers to no one. Since Pippi is also only 9 years old, kids tend to be thrilled whie their parents may be captivated, bemused or aghast. Dr Seuss, the main pen name of the talented Theodor Geisel, is known both for his children's picture books and for being a pioneer in the development of beginning reader books.  Classic Dr Seuss picture books include: And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, The Lorax, Horton Hears A Who and Horton Hatches an Egg. His beginning reader books include Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat.
