Geisel, Dr. Seuss and LeSieg Feb 23rd 2012, 11:04 Question: What's the Connection Between Theodor Geisel, Dr. Seuss and Theo. Lesieg? Answer: What do Theodor Geisel, Dr. Seuss, and Theo. Lesieg have in common? The latter two names were used by Theodor Geisel as pen names. When he first began writing and illustrating children's books, Theodor Geisel combined "Dr." and "Seuss," his middle name, which was also his mother's maiden name, to create the pseudonym "Dr. Seuss." The Dr. Seuss picture books and beginning readers were written and illustrated by Geisel. Among our family's favorite picture books by Dr. Seuss are Horton Hatches the Egg and The Lorax. Favorite beginning readers by Dr. Seuss include The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. Theodor Geisel also wrote a number of beginning readers under the pseudonym "Theo. Lesieg" (Geisel spelled backwards). Unlike the Dr. Seuss books, the beginning readers written under the pen name Theo. Lesieg were not illustrated by Geisel. Instead, a variety of different illustrators were used. Beginning readers by Theo. Lesieg include The Eye Book, Ten Apples Up on Top, and Many Mice of Mr. Price.
